news

So, I have been busy these past few weeks... let me fill you in to what I have been up to. Starting the week after the 4th of July I started working at a daycare. My main job is to take school age students on field trips...( this means I often get paid to sun bathe... I also get paid to eat a lot as well as ride in a car.) I also often work in the toddler room. (this is not my favorite thing to do considering I am not a big fan of changing diapers) This job keeps me busy I work at it 5 days a week as well as I tutor 2-3 days a week. Last week I took a vacation. Sam and I flew to Spokane. Sam's mom picked us up at the airport and let us use her car so we could travel around. My parents were at my cousin's cabin in Courdelain, Idaho.. so we went and stayed with them a few nights as well. This was a lot of fun..the weather was nice I got to wakeboard a lot and we also went to Silverwood-- their newest roller coaster is a lot of fun. We flew home on Friday and on Saturday I drove to Arlington to hang out with my sister. On Sunday their was a concert in Arlington that I went to with a bunch of my friends. The concert was Darryl Worley, Jessica Andrews, and Kellie Pickler. It was a lot of fun and we got to stand right near the stage for Kellie Pickler. I was suprised that big names of country like them would want to come to tiny Arlington but they seemed to enjoy themselves- it is really pretty where they were playing by the river. So itwas 7:00 when the concert got over and we even left before the last song-- then we had to wait over an hour in the parking lot before could make our way out to the street. (The drive to the venue only took me about 3-4 minutes) The wait in the darn parking lot was insane. Then I thought about going back to Redmond that night at about 11pm- I decided against it so that I could watch the olympics- this was a smart choice I later realized. I woke up the next morning and got ready for work I was suppose to be in Sammamish at 11:00 for tutoring. I was driving down the freeway - I was about 10 miles from my parents house and then my car started overheating. I called my dad and we tried to put in antifreeze but it wouldn't stay in the car- so we ended up towing it to a shop to get it fixed. I was scared the bill was going to be huge but luckily it was much lower than I had expected. My sister let me borrow her car- I didn't make it to tutoring but I made it to the daycare on time. Then yesterday I was at the beach with the kids and I got a phone call from an elementary school offering me an interview for a kinergarten position. Luckily my dad is taking a class in the same town as my interview so we are trading cars so I can have mine back! I am nervous about the interview but I feel prepared since I taught kindergarten as a long term sub last year. Once I know the results I will post a blog.

Trapped

So, I wake up on Friday morning at 7:10am because I have to be at work by 8:00am. I take a shower and then I accidently cut myself on the leg. I walk to my bedroom door to go and get a bandaid that is in the other bathroom. I turn the handle to the door but nothing happens. I then get dressed (I decide this is a good thing to do in case someone has baricaded my door and is hiding to try to kill me or something on the other side) I then try with all my might to get the door open but it is just not happening. The metal part that moves in and out in the door is stuck (later to find out it was installed incorrectly). So I get a screw driver from Sam's tool box that he keeps in our bedroom and I take the door knob off. The whole taking the door knob off thing does not help me get out of the room but it does let me see through a tony whole that indeed I am the only person in our apartment. Then I decide to call Sam to come save me. Problem is he is about 30 minutes away playing basketball. Finally he comes home and ends up having to break the door down because their was no other way to get the door open. I ended up being 20 minutes late to work but I did have a good story to tell as to why I was late.

Not quite the perfect job

So as stated in my last post I was looking for an easy laid back job where I could come in anytime I felt like it. Instead for a summer job I got a job where I am on my feet 24/7 running around and working 40 + hours a week. I work as a teacher at a daycare. I fill in for whatever teacher is on vacation for that week. This week I am the preschool teacher (ages 1 year 1 month- 2 years 11 months) All of them can walk except for one but you can only understand the talking of 2 or 3 of them and none of them are potty trained. So basically I entertain babies, change diapers, clean up messes, and chase babies around. Yesterday I only had 4 kids. Today I had 10. Luckily if their gets to be more than 7 they have to get another teacher in to help me. This morning they were having a screaming battle and just about every single kid was screaming and crying at the top of their lungs. Sam says this is good birth control for me. I actually still think they are super cute even if they can be extremly annoying and they are soo much work. I was watching John and Kate plus 8 yesterday I don't know how they do it! I can handle it for the 8 hours but after that I am so exhausted and I just want to sit in silence for like the rest of the entire day! Still no interviews for a real job- hopefully they will happen soon. I heard before I should get a bunch at the end of August-- so we will see. I am taking a week vacation the first week of August so I am excited for that. I will be relaxing in the sun and resting-- it will be nice! Now, I get to go cook dinner and clean my own house... yeah!!

job hunt

I am in search of an easy, relaxing job where any day it is sunny out I can call in and tell them I am not coming in. I would also like it to pay atleast 15 dollars an hour..... So that would be my dream job but since I most likely will never find that job let alone a job like that that wants someone only to work for the summer I guess I will have to settle for something else. So far I have applied at a few daycare centers-- although if they scream at the kids I am outta there! I also am hoping to get a real teaching job soon. I have not had any interviews yet- once reason is because my letter of intent is not turned in yet. I will be sending that out tomorrow. I looked today and saw a half time kindergarten job posted which I would be interested in- I prefer full time but half time is better than nothing. This weekend was very busy Eilidh's bacherlette party on Saturday, Kyle's graduation party on Sunday, and out to dinner for Father's Day with Sam's Dad Sunday night. That made me miss the woman's gymnastic trials- luckily Kati taped them for me on tivo so I will be able to eventually watch them. I am about to go take a nap and play my DS now. Unfortunatley this morning there was asuper loud leaf blower that was keeping me from sleeping (it was 10 am- but I like to sleep!) At 5 I am about to go to a dance class at the gym. I learned some crumping last week at it-- let's just say I need practice still!!

Well since it has been almost 2 months since my last post I decided to post one. I have not had too much excitement substituting lately-- But on Monday I did have a kid squirt a bunch of hand santatizer into the drinking fountain (he took off the metal handle and then squirted it into the the plastic area)- Then the same kid gave me a note that said "you have a big butt" (this kid is in first grade) I am not sure if the note was intended for me because I said what was that you just put in your desk and then he handed it to me- but none the less that is mean! The kids have such bad behavior because it is the middle of June and they are still stuck in school! It is almost worthless to even try to teach anything because they are so zoned out. I told the kids today they wouldn't get there yearbooks if they kept blurting out and not following directions- that shut them up pretty good and after I said that they had pretty decent behavior.

On Tuesday I went to my brother's high school graduation. It was kind of sad to see him graduate because in my eyes he is still a little kid. He is planning on going to a community college near my apartment and most likely living with Sam and I. Also he will find out soon if he got into this prestious choir... and will also find out if he got a scholarship as well. He already got a little over a thousand dollars in scholarships so that is better than nothing. I had way better grades then him and I got a lot less scholarships then he did. I guess people tend to give you more scholarships if they know who you are (that was not my goal of high school at all) and my brother is pretty hard to miss. (He thinks he is Mr. Funny and about 60% of the time I agree) Also my sister and my cousin are graduating from college this coming weekend. These pass two summers have been so loaded with things. Last year I graduated and got married and now this summer my sister and brother are going to college and my brother is moving out. (My is still living at home even though she is 25!) The weekend after next I am going to be in my best friend's wedding- so that should be fun. Hopefully the weather will cooperate. I am pretty much very much ready for summer. I am still in the process of finding a summer job. I had an interview at a math tutoring center and they told me I had the job I just needed to take a math test first. I took the math test and it has been over a week and I have not heard back-- so I am guessing I failed that math test!! It was 5 pages long and took me 2 hours. It had things on it that I had not done since elementary school. - oh well a summer full of math is not my dream anyways! I should be hearing from a summer program that deals with homeless and low income children soon. They called me yesterday for an interview but I wanted the other location so that location should be getting back to me soon. Well there is your update! Sam had his championship basketball game tonight at 9pm against a team of 50- 60 year olds (they have lost to them twice already) They lost by like 30 points last time to these old guys!! I think it is funny but him team finds it embarassing. I will have to say those old dudes can shoot like nobody's business- everything they shoot goes in! Also last week we signed up for Golds. I like to take the classes. I took Yoga last Wednesday and it went well and I liked it a lot. Saturday I took Step Class. The only spot was in the front row--- I accidently fell off the step machine and the whole thing came apart with a loud crash and the entire class stared at me. The teacher told me to give it 3 classes and she said I did well ( I think that was a pity compliment) It was a lot of fun and I got a great workout-- so I think I will keep doing it even if I look like an idiot doing it. Oh yeah and most of the class is like 50 and way way better than me! I have a hard time moving my arms and legs at the same time. I bet watching me is pretty much like watching the charelson video ( you know what I mean if your one of the lucky ones that saw it!) Oh yah then I had yoga again last night and we had a substitute teacher. She was a weird one. She kept saying things like "Your body is a miracle" and " paint a rainbow with your heart... watch the colors explode" and also she had us dedicate our class to someone and at the end we had to send it off to that person. If you want me to dedicate a yoga class to you just leave me a comment and I will be sure to do that!

Tonight Sam and I are going to the (maybe) last sonics game ever played in Seattle. They probably won't win-- but last time I went to the game they did beat the Cavs- so I guess miracles do occur. Yesterday Sam and I went to his parents house and Sam worked on his stereo. It was 80 degrees outside which is insane especially because it snowed here a little over a week ago. Today the weather is back to its normal 50 degrees so it was such a treat for it to be nuce out yesterday. I spent the day reading outside on the porch. This resulted in one my shoulders being completely fried and the other one is still white as ever. We met up with some of our friends and went to Red Robin for dinner. Then we talked our friends into buying rock band and we went over the their house and played for a few hours. I really like that game a lot and everytime I play I get better (that is on the guitar--- my singing pretty much is destined to stay the same out of tune sound) Although the game likes my voice because I hardly ever fail singing and I usually play on medium. I slept this morning until 11am which is pretty much my standard time for waking up if I have a choice. The only thing I have done today is read (a new book since I finished my other book yesterday and I also did laundry and helped clean our apartment. Our dish washer broke so we spent a great deal of time doing the dishes- me washing and Sam drying. Hopefully the sonics with actually win tonight that would be a nice way to end it all. I am driving back to Arlington to teach kindergarteners once again-- which is usually a lot of fun but does indeed test my patience.

I know it has been forever

Back by popular demand-- I will now post a blog. So, here is an update of what I have been up to recently. As most of/ all of you know I have a long term sub job for my best friend teaching kindergarten. I started that at the beginning of March and I have about 2 weeks left. I would have to say that she has quite a difficult class. The plus side of this is that I am gaining a lot of great experience practicing my behavior management skills. The downside of this is that it is hard to get a lot done when you spend so much time dealing with behavior. Don't get me wrong most of her class is great and they are really nice kids but there are a few that really push my buttons. Overall I have a lot of fun coming up with creative ideas for projects but at times I become quite impatient with some of the students behavior. I love the creative freedom you have with kindergarten but I think that I might be a better teacher for older grades (2nd or 3rd) I subbed in a 2nd grade class a few days ago. It was so nice to be able to turn my back for like 1 minute and not be scared that the whole class was going to fall apart. So, pretty much kindergarteners are very needy- but they are pretty much all 5 so I don't blame them or anything... I donno I am unsure about wanting to teaching kindy in the future. So other than subbing I have not really been doing a lot. I have been getting a chance to hang out with my friends and family a lot more because I am in Arlington 3 days a week now. I have been helping my brother with his senior project. He is dedecorating my sister's old room. So far we have got all of the wall paperoff and he have primed and painted the room. My brother and I also (mostly just my brother) completed one of the sections of the mural. He is going to paint a few walls with music/ movie images. So far we are done with an image of Shawn Connory (as James Bond) and a oo7 logo. It has turned out really well so far and really does look like him. Last night I came back to my apartment and then Sam and I went to his basketball game which started at 8:30pm. Sam's team pretty much got creamed. The other team seemed to make just about every shot they took. With about 10 minutes left in the game Sam got elbowed in the nose. He got a large gouge on his nose and it was gushing blood every where. It was so bad that he it looked like it needed stitches. So Sam being who he is decided to tape it up and play the rest of the game. It was so bad it was like seeping through the tape. So after the game I took him to the ER and we waited only an hour an a half which is pretty short for the ER. They steristripped his nose (taped it closed) and told him he would have a nice scar. So then we finnaly got home at midnight. We watched part of American Idol Gives Back (which we had taped) and then went to bed, I decided not to take a job today because I was so tired and Sam has today off too. So now in a little bit we ae going to the craft store because Sam needs to buy some fabric glue so that he can work on the box for his sound system he is building for his car. Oh and I am waiting to hear back because there is a possibility that Kati and I might be able to go to Lousianna for a week for free to work with Habitat for Humanity to build houses for Jimmy Carter weekend and Jimmy Carter will even be there. I will update this once I found out if we get to go or not.
